Building site search for Amanda

Detectives are still appealing for information
Police searching for missing nursery nurse Amanda Edwards are digging at a building site.

The 21-year-old disappeared after dropping her boyfriend off in Calne, Wiltshire, eight days ago.

Specialist search officers are now examining a "very specific" patch of ground in Malmesbury.

They intensified the search behind a housing development building site after officers using sniffer dogs examined the area.

Meanwhile, officers have released a local man without charge after he was arrested and questioned in connection with Amanda's disappearance.

Earlier this week officers took a man under the cover of a sheet to the building site - but would not discuss whether it was the same man who had been held by them.

Work had been continuing at the Knoll development on Thursday but on Friday the site was sealed off and no contractors were present.

Police confirmed that a tent had been erected behind the hotel and that digging was taking place.

Amanda Edwards has been missing for more than a week
On Thursday, Police took Amanda's distinctive racing green Rover Metro to the car park in west Swindon where it was found abandoned last week in the hope it might prompt shoppers' memories.

Amanda Edwards, 21, from Purton, near Swindon, disappeared after giving her boyfriend a lift home to Calne at 1000 BST last Thursday.

Ms Edwards' car was discovered in the car park of the West Swindon Asda superstore at 1830 BST last Thursday.

After studying CCTV, police say they have identified a car believed to be hers, travelling through Wootton Bassett at 1155 BST towards Swindon, driven by a lone woman.

Police say this means the racing green car could have arrived at the Asda car park shortly after midday.

Det Ch Supt Paul Howlett, said: "Sadly, despite extensive inquiries it continues to be the case that we are no further forward in obtaining a satisfactory explanation for Amanda's disappearance or indeed her current whereabouts."
