Man bailed over fatal collision

A man arrested over a crash on the M1 near Leeds in which a lorry driver died has been released on bail.

A Fiat Punto hit the central barrier at junction 46 near Colton just before 0130 BST on Thursday.

A lorry behind the Punto was then hit by another HGV. The driver of the second vehicle, a 47-year-old man from County Durham suffered fatal injuries.

The Punto driver was held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and being over the alcohol limit.

Police said he was from the Hampshire area.

A stretch of the motorway was closed in both directions after the crash.

West Yorkshire Police appealed for any witnesses to the collision to contact them.
