One of the UK's largest music colleges is planning a merger to give its 3,000 students a "better experience". Governors at Leeds College of Music said a partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University would bring "wide-ranging benefits". A plan for the proposed merger is due to be drawn up and, if approved, could be completed in 2011. Leeds Met said: "We are delighted that the college of music have chosen us as their partner for a potential merger." Phillip Meaden, principal at the college, said: "The college is looking forward to working with staff at Leeds Met to develop a business plan for a potential merger of the two institutions." On its website, Leeds Met said that the merger would make Leeds a centre for music excellence, adding: "The possibilities are enormous." The college said that it expected learning opportunities for students to be enhanced by the merger.
