Man badly injured in city assault

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted in a West Yorkshire city.

Officers were called to Harehills Road in Leeds after a member of the public found the injured man at about 2315 BST on Wednesday.

The man, who has not been identified, is said to be in a critical condition at Leeds General Infirmary.

Police have urged witnesses to contact them. The road was closed for several hours after the incident.
