Secondary schools in revamp bid

Three secondary schools in Bradford could be rebuilt and 10 others refurbished as part of a £200m project.

The proposed overhaul would see more room created at Ilkley and Bingley Grammar Schools - two of the district's most successful schools.

The plans also include a new build on the Nab Wood School site in Cottingley.

Bradford Council will decide on the proposals, which form part of the Government's Building Schools for the Future scheme, at a meeting later.

Work would be carried out at other schools, including Belle Vue Girls, Belle Vue Boys, Carlton Bolling, Laisterdyke, St Bede's, St Joseph's, Queensbury, Thornton, Oakbank and Holy Family.

If given the go-ahead, a further £32m would be invested in computer technology.

Kath Tunstall, the council's Strategic Director for Services to Children and Young People, said: "At the heart of this is the need to drive up educational attainment for all our pupils and give young people, staff and the wider community buildings, something to be proud of."
