One dead as blaze ravages house

One person has died in a house fire which needed two dozen firefighters to contain the blaze early on Monday.

Crews were called to the property in Walton Lane in the Sandal Magna area of Wakefield at about 0130 GMT.

Three-quarters of the building was alight when the teams arrived. Officers said the body was found by crews inside the house.

Police said they were investigating the cause of the fire, but it is not thought to be suspicious.

Fire crews from surrounding towns were called to deal with the fire.
