Elderly woman is robbed near home

An 84-year-old woman was pushed to the ground by a teenage robber who pushed her over near her home in Leeds.

The attacker, believed to be aged about 16, was hidden among dustbins in a car park at Woodland Court off Well House Road in the Gledhow area.

Police said he pushed the woman in the face causing her to fall back and fled with her handbag on Monday night.

Det Insp Nick Wallen, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "This was a cowardly attack on a vulnerable lady."

The woman's bag contained cash, glasses and the remote control for her hearing aids.

Det Insp Wallen added: "The suspect timed the attack to cause maximum upset and distress.

"Although the victim was fortunately not seriously injured she was left understandably shaken by the incident, which could have been a lot more serious."

Witnesses or anyone with information are being asked to contact police.
