Ex-policeman in voyeurism charge

An ex-policeman turned private investigator filmed a teenage couple having sex for his own "gratification", a court has heard.

A jury at Leeds Crown Court was told Paul Clay set up a video camera in a bedroom at a house in the city to film the pair "engage in intercourse".

The court heard five video tapes of the couple having sex were found.

Mr Clay, 51, denies a charge of voyeurism and claims he set up the camera to catch a thief.

Privacy 'invaded'

Jonathan Devlin, prosecuting, said the video tapes were found interspersed with taped programmes from the television such as the Superbowl.

Mr Devlin said another six tapes, with footage of the suspected thief allegedly snooping, had since gone missing.

He said: "He is lying. Trying to say he found evidence but 'Oh dear, look, the tapes have disappeared' "

The prosecutor said Mr Clay had subjected the pair who were filmed to a "massive invasion of privacy" and had done so for his own "sexual gratification".

A former officer with West Yorkshire Police, he is also charged with sexual assault, five counts of making indecent photographs of children and one charge of possessing an indecent photograph of a child. He denies all the charges.

The trial continues.
