Police find children 'home alone'

Three children have been found by police in a house in Leeds after apparently being left "home alone".

West Yorkshire Police confirmed they were called to a property in the Burley area of the city at the weekend and discovered the youngsters.

The three who were at the house in the city are aged 11, five and six and are thought to be unharmed.

The children have been placed with foster carers as there was no adult at the property.

In a statement, police said: "Officers received a call from a member of the public on Saturday reporting concern for three children at an address in Burley.

"Police attended at the address and found three children aged 11 years, six years and five-years-old and no adult was present.

"They have been brought into protective custody where they are being cared for.

"The children do not have any injuries and appear to be fit and well."

West Yorkshire detectives are now working with social services in Leeds to establish the full circumstances surrounding the concerns and if any offences have been committed.

In a statement Leeds City Council said: "We are aware of the situation and the children have been placed with foster carers while we work very closely with police to investigate the circumstances."
