Volunteers help at music festival

The Killers are one of the main headliners at this year's event

More than 100 university staff and students are helping to make sure this year's Leeds Festival runs smoothly.

Volunteers from Leeds Metropolitan University have a variety of roles, including assisting film crews and managing the BBC Introducing stage.

The three-day festival at Bramham Park, which starts on Friday, attracts more than 70,000 people.

Traffic is building up across the city, with motorists on the A1 and A64 in particular experiencing delays.

Leeds Metropolitan University has joined forces with the event's organisers, Festival Republic, to give students and staff the opportunity to work at the festival.

'Great fun'

Students who wanted to volunteer had to go through an interview process before being selected and have received up to five weeks of training ahead of the festival.

Other roles include assisting sound and lighting crews, providing information for festival-goers and managing late-night entertainment at the campsites.

The university said it gave the volunteers a chance to "experience what goes on behind the scenes at a major event" and admitted it would be "great fun" for them.

Tickets for this year's event sold out in less than two hours when they went on sale earlier this year.

The site is expected to be rain free.
