Man charged with attempted rape

A man has been charged with the attempted rape of a woman in North Yorkshire eight years ago.

A man tried to rape a woman, who was 24 at the time, at Park Place, Park Parade in Harrogate in the early hours of 23 November, 2000.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said a man was arrested and charged on Tuesday night after new evidence came to light.

A 43-year-old man is due to appear before magistrates in Harrogate later.
