Boy hit by car is seriously hurt

A 10-year-old boy is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car in West Yorkshire.

The youngster was hit by a Citroen Xantia which was being driven along Carlinghow Lane in Batley shortly before 1730 BST on Tuesday.

The boy was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital and was later transferred to the children's intensive care unit at Leeds General Infirmary.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them.
