Family plea over son's gun death

The parents of a father-of-one shot dead at a house in Leeds have issued a public plea to find his killers.

Adam Chadwick, 20, was gunned down on 24 June in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity.

He had been visiting his sister Gemma's house on Clifton Mount, Harehills when three masked men and a woman burst in.

Speaking at a news conference, his parents Martin and Jackie Chadwick said: "Adam was loved by everyone. How could this happen to a man like this?"

Mr Chadwick died in hospital two days later from a single bullet wound to the head.

He was a good son, a good brother, a good friend to hundreds but most of all he was a brilliant father

His parents added: "People are saying Adam was in the wrong place at the wrong time, this is incorrect.

"Adam was where he liked to be with his friend and sister Gemma.

"What happened that night should not have happened because the people who killed Adam had no reason to be there.

"He did nothing wrong. He was an honest, hard-working young man. He was a good son, a good brother, a good friend to hundreds of people, but most of all he was a brilliant father.

"I hope anyone with information, no matter how trivial you may believe it might be, please, please, please ring the police."

Detectives want to speak to the woman who was with the men on the night of the shooting.

Police said she had been knocking at doors earlier in the evening asking for "Michelle".

Det Supt Steve Payne said: "Enquiries to date lead me to believe this incident was a case of mistaken identity.

"It is vital that we trace this woman as soon as possible."

Officers are also appealing for information about a blue Ford Focus found in the Chapeltown area, close to the site of the former Hayfield pub.

Mr Payne said the vehicle was stolen from the Oatland Heights area of Little London on 11 June.
