Mrs Regan started campaigning after her son was shot dead

The grandson of a prominent anti-gun campaigner has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with her murder.

Pat Regan, 53, was found stabbed to death at a property in Marlborough Grange in the Hyde Park area of Leeds on Sunday evening.

Rakeim Regan, 20, appeared before Leeds magistrates charged with her murder and another charge of wounding with intent.

He was remanded until 11 June, when he will appear before Leeds Crown Court.

Mother-of-six Mrs Regan started her campaign against gun crime after her son Danny, 25, was shot dead in 2002 in an attack in Merseyside. His killer has never been found.

She had been a high-profile spokeswoman against gun crime and met government officials to discuss how to tackle the problems of guns and gang-related crime.
