Five men have been treated in hospital for knife wounds after a major disturbance outside a nightclub in Leeds city centre.

One of the men suffered serious injuries in the incident in The Calls area of the city early on Monday morning, West Yorkshire Police said.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, police added.

Five men were arrested in connection with the incident, which police described as serious public disorder.

A force spokesman confirmed these were not the injured men.

"Police were called to an incident at 5.10am outside a nightclub in The Calls area of Leeds city centre," he said.

"CCTV picked up what appeared to be a disturbance. As a result of this disturbance five men were treated at Leeds General Infirmary for stab wounds."

Police urged anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.

Several streets remained cordoned off on Monday in The Calls area of the city, which comprises a mixture of fashionable bars, clubs and restaurants and city centre apartments.
