A garage fire which forced about 200 people to be evacuated from their homes was arson, police have said.

People living on Sutherland Avenue in Roundhay, Leeds were moved from their properties when the blaze threatened to spread to nearby gas cylinders.

A 200m exclusion zone was set up and residents were taken to nearby schools and pubs as fire crews dealt with the incident on Monday night.

Police are asking people who saw anything suspicious to contact them.

Families were allowed back into their homes after several hours.
