Man attempts to snatch schoolgirl

Detectives are investigating the attempted abduction of an 11-year-old schoolgirl in Leeds.

The girl was grabbed by a man as she stood at the bus stop at the junction of Coal Road and Redhall Vale in Whinmoor on Wednesday morning.

Police said: "He dragged the girl a few feet before she managed to break free and run to her home nearby."

The man was skinny, 5ft 10ins, with dark eyebrows and rough skin on his hands. He was wearing a dark hoody.

Forensic leads

Det Insp Sean Middleton, of Stainbeck CID, said: "We are treating this incident very seriously and we are currently making house-to-house enquiries in the area.

"We have a team of detectives working on this at the moment and are following up a number of forensic leads."

He urged anyone who was in the area at around 1000 BST on Wednesday and who saw a man matching the description to come forward.

"The girl is obviously very distraught and was left shaken by the incident," he said.

West Yorkshire Police said there would be an increased police presence in the Whinmoor area to reassure local people through high visibility patrols from the local neighbourhood policing team.
