Police chase crash under scrutiny
A police chase of a vehicle in east Leeds which saw two boys injured in a crash is being investigated.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is managing the inquiry into the crash in which an allegedly stolen Nissan Sunny crashed in Cross Green.

Officers followed the car from Methley until the accident on Pontefract Lane, in the early hours of 30 May.

Two 16-year-olds were taken to Leeds General Infirmary. The driver of the Sunny had a serious back injury.

Both youths have been charged with taking a vehicle without consent.

The incident was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) by West Yorkshire Police.

IPCC Commissioner Nicholas Long has decided to manage the force's investigation into the incident.

Mr Long said: "The investigation will thoroughly examine all aspects of the police contact, including the reasoning for the decision to pursue the vehicle and whether alternative tactics might have been adopted."
