Clock stolen from country house

The clock is thought to be worth £65,000

A musical clock thought to be worth £65,000 has been stolen from Temple Newsam House in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police said an intruder entered the 16th Century house armed with what looked like pickaxe handle late on Thursday night.

The clock, which dates to about 1800, was the only item stolen.

The thief carried a holdall and wore dark clothing and a balaclava. He or she escaped on foot across the nearby golf course.

The clock, which was made for the Thomas Week's Museum, has a painted face and a section at the front with moving villagers dancing round a maypole.
