A West Yorkshire writer and broadcaster has set up a fund for young musicians in memory of his daughter who drowned in a canoeing accident this year.

Ian Clayton plans to raise money to buy musical instruments to give to children in his home town of Featherstone.

Nine-year-old Billie Holiday Clayton drowned in the River Wye in April during a family holiday.

Mr Clayton has set up Billie's Violin Fund to keep alive his daughter's memory through the music she loved.

He said: "Billie and her twin brother Edward were very musical twins.

"I wondered what I could do that was positive and creative.

"Because you can't get over the missing and you havent got the language to express how much you miss somebody who you love and who's your daughter.

"So I thought every time I miss her I need something to think about.

"We decided that as a family we would raise funds and set up what we've called Billie's Violin Fund.

"The idea is that each year we're going to buy a musical instrument for a kid in Featherstone for the next 10 years, which would have been the years she was at school."
