University honour for soccer star
Trevor Cherry
Trevor Cherry played for Leeds for 10 years
Former England footballer Trevor Cherry is to receive an honorary degree from the University of Huddersfield.

Mr Cherry, 57, started his playing career with Huddersfield Town in 1965.

Born in Huddersfield, the defender later played for Leeds United and then Bradford City and made 27 appearances for England.

"Trevor Cherry enjoyed a distinguished soccer career without moving far from his home town," said Philip Williams from the university.

"He has always been loyal to Huddersfield and to the Yorkshire region in general."

Mr Cherry will receive his award at the university's degree ceremonies later this month.
