Building society to change name
Leeds city centre
The society wants to align itself with "vibrant" Leeds
Members of Leeds & Holbeck Building Society have agreed to change its name.

From the end of the year it will be known as Leeds Building Society after eight out of 10 of the 75,000 members voted to back the plan.

Managers feel the new name will more closely associate the society with a city known throughout the UK.

Although officially founded in 1875, the society's roots date back to a group of people in Holbeck, a district just outside the city centre, in 1845.

Leeds and Holbeck is the UK's eighth largest building society with 58 branches.

Chairman Robert Wade said: "We strongly believe changing our name to Leeds Building Society very clearly describes our successful business to all people throughout the UK."
