Police say they have not given up hope of solving a murder case three years after a man was killed in Huddersfield.

Brian Hardwick, a 50-year-old father-of-two, was found dead at his car electrical business in Colne Road just before 8am on 22 November 2001.

He had been shot in the head and chest and robbed of his wallet as well as his purse and a pendent and chain.

Detectives say they still do not know why Mr Hardwick was killed and have made a fresh appeal for information.

Damaged tyre

The last time he was seen alive was at his business at about 1730 GMT the day before his body was found.

His car tyre had been deliberately damaged and he was repairing it.

Later that evening his bank card was used to withdraw £350 from a cash machine at Asda in Fartown in Huddersfield.

Det Insp Steve Hepplestone said: "We have been interviewing people concerned with the events that night but we still need more vital information."

Three local men, aged 40, 38 and 23, were arrested in connection with inquiry in September this year and have been released pending further inquiries.
