Murder conviction to be reviewed
Julie Kenyon
The case involving Halifax woman Julie Kenyon is to be reviewed
A woman who was convicted of murdering her 89-year-old grandmother is to have her case reviewed.

The Criminal Cases Review Commission is to examine the case of Julie Kenyon from Mixenden, Halifax, who was charged with smothering Irene Waters.

Kenyon denied the charge saying it was a mercy killing but was convicted after her sister secretly taped what was alleged to be a confession.

The Commission can order the case to be heard at the Appeal Court.

Julie Kenyon was convicted at Newcastle Crown Court by a majority verdict in July 2003.

The 46-year-old, of Dodge Holme Court, was told by the judge Mr Justice Grigson at the end of her trial: "You smothered to death a woman you professed to love and revere."
