Police hunt man over Birkby arson
Shahid Mohammed
Shahid Mohammed is missing
Police are still hunting a man they want to question over the Birkby arson attack, which killed eight members of the same family two years ago.

Shahid Mohammed, 20, from Huddersfield, was arrested and released on bail during the murder inquiry, after the fire in Osborne Road on 12 May, 2002.

He has never answered that bail and police believe he may be using a false name and have changed his appearance.

Three men have already been jailed, one for murder and two for manslaughter.

Five sisters, their mother and their uncle died during the fire at their terraced house.

Detective Inspector John Halstead
Their grandmother died a week later at Leeds General Infirmary.

Detective Inspector John Halstead said people who were unable to come forward two years ago, may now be in a position to do so.

"I would urge them to contact us," he said.

"There is no need to be afraid. You can contact us in complete confidence and we can protect you.

"Three generations of one family were murdered in this fire, including innocent children."
