A 23-year-old Pontefract man died when the car he was in smashed into a lamppost and three parked vehicles after failing to negotiate a bend.
The dead man was a passenger in the Vauxhall Corsa which crashed on the A638 Wakefield Road at Ackworth, Pontefract at 0420 BST on Monday.
The driver, a 21-year-old local man, was seriously injured and is bring treated at Leeds General Infirmary.
West Yorkshire Police have urged anyone who saw the crash to contact them.
