Police check the cars for any evidence left behind by the offender.
Police in Leeds are prescribing check-ups for victims of vehicle crime at their new "Car Crime Clinic".

People whose cars have been targeted by criminals are being urged to take them along to the clinic at Chapeltown police station for examination.

Officers will check the vehicle for fingerprints and other evidence left behind by offenders.

The owner will also receive crime prevention advice as part of the campaign to drive off car criminals.

Det Sgt Steve Thomas said the aim was to bring more criminals before the courts and give motorists advice to protect themselves against crime.

"By bringing their vehicle to the clinic the public are playing a vital role in the fight against crime," he said.

"Not only are they helping to increase the chances of identifying those responsible, but they are also learning about how to prevent further opportunities for criminals."
