Officers called in over trial collapse

West Yorkshire Police are to investigate their colleagues in Lincolnshire over the collapse of a major drugs trial.

The investigation centres on allegations that officers recorded a defendant's conversation with his solicitor.

It resulted in the case against 11 people accused of supplying heroin being stopped earlier this month.

Judge Michael Heath described the bugging as outrageous and a breach of a fundamental right.

Cash boost for nature reserve

A nature reserve for wetland wildlife in West Yorkshire is to be improved thanks to a grant from a local company.

Landfill operator Caird Barden is giving £20,000 to the Fairburn Ings reserve near Castleford which is run by the RSPB.

The money will be used to carry out work to benefit birds such as lapwing and snipe.

One of the main projects will be building sluices to control water levels to give better breeding grounds.

Teachers chalk up new experience

Teachers from three schools in Bradford have flown out to Arentina as part of a special fact-finding mission.

They will visit staff and children in similar schools in Buenos Aires to create links and learn from their foreign colleagues.

The visit is being funded by the British Council, which encourages Local Education Authorities all over the country to experience schooling abroad.
