Birmingham Royal Ballet has celebrated its 20th birthday with a visit from Prince Charles.

He attended a gala at the Hippodrome theatre in the city centre ahead of a dance performance.

Lady Sarah Chatto accompanied the prince as the Duchess of Cornwall was unable to attend the show because she has a bad back.

The company relocated from London in the 1990s and annual audience numbers average 500,000, a spokesman said.
