Two racing greyhounds destroyed in Birmingham

Two greyhounds at Birmingham's Hall Green stadium have been destroyed this month after sustaining injuries while racing.

General manager Stephen Rea speculated that the two injuries might have been related to the cold weather.

The animals were put down by on-site vets after they were injured on the first and third weeks of the month, Mr Rea confirmed to the BBC.

"It's a lot. We normally have three to four a year," he said.

He added: "We do everything we can to protect the animals, but unfortunately there are injuries.

"At the end of the day we have to go by the vet's decision."
