Man held as woman, 81, run over

A man has been arrested after an 81-year-old woman was seriously injured when she was hit by a car in Wolverhampton.

Police said the woman was knocked down by the car on Stafford Road at about 1700 GMT on Friday.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious head injuries and her condition was said to be critical.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

He was later bailed pending further inquiries.

Anyone who saw the crash has been urged to contact police.
