Dumped husband jailed for murder

A man dumped by his wife two days after their wedding has been jailed for life after attacking her and stabbing the woman's new boyfriend to death.

David Slater, 57, left his wife with serious stab wounds and Kenneth Westwood dead on his doorstep in August 2008, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

Slater, of Suddeley Gardens, Dudley, had denied attempting to murder wife Alison and murdering Mr Westwood.

Judge John Warner ruled he must spend a minimum of 16 years behind bars.

Slater went to the home of Mr Westwood, 50, in Monument Lane in the Sedgley area two weeks after the wedding, the court was told.

He armed himself with a large knife after learning his 51-year-old wife had started a relationship with Mr Westwood.

Slater was convicted on both charges by a jury at the end of his trial.
