Launch of £2.4bn schools scheme

An event is being held to mark the start of a £2.4bn investment to rebuild or refurbish secondary schools in Birmingham.

Head teachers, governors and students will gather in the city as details of plans involving a new education partnership are outlined.

The rebuilding proposals have been put together under the Building Schools for the Future programme.

City council leader Mike Whitby is among those due to speak at the event.

Chairman of the Local Education Partnership Sir Malcolm Thornton, who is a former Conservative MP and chairman of the Commons Education Committee, will also speak at the event.
