Town's £3m development drawn up

Plans for a £3m redevelopment in a market town are being drawn up ahead of a public consultation.

Martin Allard from Shropshire Council said residents' views would be sought for developing part of Market Drayton.

The redevelopment of an area between Stafford Street and Phoenix Bank may include new housing, community and leisure facilities.

Mr Allard said it was an opportunity to bring facilities to the site which residents of the town wanted.

Ludovic Pittie, an urban designer with the consultants Mouchel which is drawing up the plans, said it would be using the best ideas from schemes all over the country.

"We want to ensure that what's being put forward is fit for purpose, acknowledges the heritage of Market Drayton and compliments the character of the area," he said.

Public consultation over the plans is expected to start in the new year.
