War dead honoured at city service

Replica cenotaph
A replica of the city centre cenotaph has been made

Servicemen and women who have been killed in conflict have been remembered in Birmingham city centre.

A parade went down Broad Street to Centenary Square for the Remembrance Sunday ceremony.

A wooden replica cenotaph has been constructed because the original has been affected by building work.

The service has been relocated to the front of the Rep theatre in Centenary Square because exploratory work is taking place for a new £193m library.

Lord Mayor Michael Wilkes said the new setting would be "wholly appropriate" and urged people to attend the event.

Remembrance Day services took place across the West Midlands, including at Carters Lane Baptist Church in Halesowen, where they watched live television pictures from the Cenotaph in London.

And a two-minute silence was held at 1100 GMT across the country to remember the UK's war dead.
