Pedestrian 'critical' after crash

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Birmingham.

The man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit by the Vauxhall Corsa in Witton Road, Aston, about 0100 GMT, police said.

The man, aged in his early 50s, stepped between two parked vehicles on to the road, a spokeswoman said.

The driver of the Vauxhall Corsa was arrested after the incident and released on bail as inquiries continue.

West Midlands Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact officers.
