Julie Walters said she was proud to receive the award from Birmingham
|
Smethwick-born actress Julie Walters has been awarded a permanent place on Birmingham's Walk of Stars. She has been given many awards in a career spanning nearly 40 years and now has her name embedded in a Hollywood-style gold star in Broad Street. She famously starred in Educating Rita, Harry Potter and Mamma Mia. The actress told a Birmingham REP theatre audience earlier the star meant a lot to her because she was born and brought up in the West Midlands. In her best local accent she said: "I'm really proud to be referred to as a Brummie, even though I'm actually from the Black Country." Her star joins other entertainment legends such as Ozzy Osbourne and comedian Jasper Carrott in Broad Street's Walk of Stars.
