Police officer charged with rape

A West Midlands Police officer has been charged with rape.

The Crown Prosecution Service said Sgt Nicholas Clarke, 48, had been charged with one count of rape.

His wife Joanne, 48, who is a civilian member of staff for the police force, has been charged with sexual assault on a female and supplying cannabis.

West Midlands Police said both had been suspended from duty. The couple have been bailed to appear before Redditch Magistrates' Court on 27 October.

West Mercia Police, which is investigating the case, said it related to an incident in Rubery, Worcestershire, in June.

A spokeswoman said the matter had also been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
