Detectives investigating the killing of a man in a drive-by shooting have released an image they say shows his killer about to open fire.

Stephon Davidson, 19, died after shots were fired at a Citroen Saxo on Monument Road, near Ladywood Middleway, Birmingham, on 5 August 2008.

He was shot in the back of the neck and died nearly a month later.

Police said some people could find the CCTV image upsetting but hoped it would encourage someone to come forward.

The picture shows a man hanging out of the passenger window of a silver Toyota Avensis car, which has the registration number FE03 JXW.

Detectives said they knew the vehicle had been used in the Birmingham, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire areas.

Det Ch Insp Tim Bacon, who is leading the investigation, said the shooting had been "extremely reckless and brazen attack".

He urged anyone with information about the incident or recognised the man or car in the image to contact officers.
