Hundreds expected for Big Lunch

Silver Jubilee street party
Britain could be heading for the highest number of street parties since 1977

A huge dinner party and "Ready, Steady, Cook" event has been held in the West Midlands to encourage people to get to know their neighbours better.

The Big Lunch event, which is part of similar events being held across the country, took place in Victoria Park, Smethwick.

Organisers hoped up to 1,000 people would enjoy lunch, chat to neighbours, and swap recipes.

The event was organised by housing regeneration agency Urban Living.

Organisers hoped to see the largest number of street parties since the Silver Jubilee in 1977.
