Three men accused of murdering a 23-year-old man during riots in Birmingham will face a retrial after a jury failed to reach a verdict.

Waqar Ahmed, 29, Azhil Khan, 26 and Afzal Khan, 26, all from Handsworth, denied murdering Isaiah Young-Sam in Lozells in October 2005.

Mr Young-Sam, 23, was stabbed and two men with him were also attacked, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

Mr Justice Holroyde said the defendants faced a retrial on 28 January 2010.

The three defendants had also denied a charge of wounding with intent.

Jurors at the court deliberated for a total of five days but were unable to reach either a unanimous or majority verdict on any count.

The three defendants were remanded in custody to reappear at Birmingham Crown Court for the retrial.
