Two men have been arrested after an 18-year-old motorist was injured in an armed robbery in the West Midlands.

The driver was hit over the head with a metal bar as he and his girlfriend were ordered out of his car on Chester Road in Sutton Coldfield, police said.

The man suffered minor injuries in the attack just before midnight on Tuesday.

One of the attackers had a gun but no shots were fired. A police helicopter and motorway police followed the stolen car as it headed towards the M6.

Firearms officers on the ground helped the helicopter team and two men were arrested shortly after 0100 BST on Wednesday in Winson Green, a West Midlands Police spokeswoman said.

Det Sgt James Hill said: "This was a nasty incident which was brought to a swift and safe conclusion by officers."

Officers are examining film footage taken from the Central Counties Air Operations Unit helicopter.
