A teenager struck by lightning while sheltering under a tree during a storm has died in hospital.

Mohammed Junaid Hussain had been playing cricket in Small Heath Park in Birmingham on Saturday afternoon with five friends when the storm started.

The 17-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest and serious burns. Another boy suffered convulsions consistent with an electric shock, experts said.

All five boys, who are aged 16 or 17, remain in hospital.
