Pupil stabbed after football row

A 14-year-old boy was taken to hospital after allegedly being stabbed by another pupil.

The teenager was attacked at Blue Coat Church of England school, in Walsall, in the Black Country, on Monday.

He had been stabbed in the upper thigh with a pen knife but suffered only minor injuries, the school said.

Head teacher Ken Yeates said it had apparently followed an argument about football. Another 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of wounding.

He was bailed pending further inquiries, West Midlands Police said.

Mr Yeates said: "Fortunately, we are talking about what is only a minor injury which followed an isolated incident between two children, apparently sparked by an argument about football.

"That said, any incident of violence - particularly violence with a weapon - at a school is very serious."

He said the matter would be dealt with through the school's disciplinary process.
