Reprieve for airport taxi drivers

BASTA members protest
Members from the taxi association protested last month

A group of taxi drivers can temporarily continue working from Birmingham airport after taking the case to court.

Birmingham and Solihull Taxi Association (Basta) was granted a High Court injunction after the airport gave the contract to another group.

Members can continue working from the airport until the matter goes before the High Court next month.

The airport claimed Basta had not met the "service standards" it expected, a claim the association denied.

Basta said the issue was over the association's financial situation, which it accepted had seen difficulties.

Taxi drivers with the association protested last month after the airport's licence for hackney carriages went to Passenger Transport Solutions (PTS).
