Airline flies new service to US

An airline has launched a direct service from Birmingham International Airport to the US.

The first US Airways flight to Philadelphia from Birmingham took off earlier.

Previously, the only flights to the US from Birmingham had been Continental Airlines' service to New York.

Paul Kehoe, Birmingham International Airport's chief executive, said the new service was "great news" for travellers in the Midlands.

He said: "This is a vote of confidence in the Midlands region."
