Man collapses and dies in street

Investigation scene
The collapsed man was taken to hospital but declared dead on arrival

A 24-year-old man collapsed and died in Birmingham in what police describe as suspicious circumstances.

He was found injured on Kings Heath High Street just before 2300 GMT on Friday. West Midlands Police are asking if anyone saw a fight.

The man was taken to hospital, but was declared dead on arrival. A post-mortem examination revealed he died from head injuries.

The high street remains closed from Addison Road to Heathfield Road.

Fatal injuries

Network West Midlands said bus services were being diverted in Kings Heath, but running as normal.

Police have appealed for witnesses who may have been in the area and seen a possible altercation or suspicious activity at about 2245 GMT on Friday.

Det Insp Richard Mayhew, of West Midlands Police said: "At this stage it is too early to reach any conclusions as to how this man may have sustained the injuries which caused his death.

"As a result, extensive inquiries are taking place at the scene."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police or call Crimestoppers anonymously.
