Icy weather closes airport runway

Flights were suspended for about 90 minutes at Birmingham International Airport following icy weather conditions in the area.

The runway was closed from about 0630 GMT on Monday and some flights were diverted to other locations, but the runway has since reopened.

Flights were delayed after the runway reopened because of a backlog, an airport spokesman said.

There was up to 5cm (2ins) of snow in the West Midlands on Monday.
