A penthouse in a Birmingham skyscraper is the first flat in the city to sell for £1 million, say developers.

The three-bedroom property on the 25th floor of the Orion Building was sold to a local businessman in his 30s, Crosby Lend Lease said.

The firm said the sale was "a huge coup for Birmingham" especially as sales had slowed across the residential market.

However, the flat sold well below its asking price of £1.6m and took about two years to sell.

The penthouse on Navigation Street offers views across the city. It also has three double bedrooms with individually-designed en suite bathrooms.

The firm said the £1m sale topped the previous city's record set by the £875,000 sale of a penthouse at Charles Church's Holliday Wharf.
