MP reveals airport security flaw

Airport security fears have been raised at Gatwick after a Birmingham MP told Parliament she unwittingly smuggled a large knife on board a plane.

Labour MP for Edgbaston Gisela Stuart said security staff failed to spot a 7ins (17.7cm) blade in her hand luggage as she travelled to Corsica in August.

She told the House of Commons on Tuesday that she had left a fruit knife in the side pocket of her shopping bag.

The airport said it would retrain staff following this security breach.
